Cuero Livestock is currently developing its online auction capabilities.
Please stay tuned for more info.. As always, if you have any questions
please do not hestiate to email or call us. Details on the online auction
will be posted here as soon as they are available..
Some developing marketing concepts and strategies are:
1. Firm offer:
This a marketing option wherein calves, either stocker or feeder weights,
are placed on the auction to be sold at price set by the producer.
In other words, so many head are offered to be sold at a fixed price
and the first buyer to agree to this price will have the cattle.
Only pre-qualified buyers will be eligible to purchase on this
type of auction.
2. Best Offer:
Calves are listed and described and terms are specified. After a
predetermined deadline, the highest bid will be reported to the
seller of the calves and that seller will have a designated deadline
to accept or reject the highest price arrived at via the online
auction.
3. Stocker Contracting:
At such time as the new stocker contract becomes a viable and liquid
contract (actively being traded), calves will be able to be forward
contracted based on a monthly futures contract. Basis will be points
off or points on a deisgnated month's contract. The present futures
contract on stocker calves is not being actively traded but is
expected to become more active over the next few years. The feeder
contract is now active enough to support forward contracting of
feeder calves and as such is being used today. Since most of the
calves originating in this South Texas area are stockers, this
could become a very innovative and attractive means of pricing
calves for future delivery.
4. Describing Livestock:
Livestock are not like a lot of auction items seen on the internet.
They are not unchanging known hard goods. They are live animals
with widely differing characteristics. The ablility to properly
describe the livestock will directly influence the prices offered
by buyers. Through the use of video and still photographs and
proper industry terminology, we hope to be able to accurately
portray what is being offered for sale. The better this is done,
the more comfortable the buyers will be in offering the highest
prices.
5. Price:
It is our intention to try set all sale prices as net to the producer.
In other words, no deductions for commission and no 'slide' to
lower the price. Animals not meeting the terms of sale because of
weight or other factors will simply not be included and as such could
be sold at the regular weekly auction at Cuero Livestock. All
commissions and fees will be paid by the buyer to this company. These
will be negotiable between the buying entity and the Cuero Livestock
Commission Company.
